A new Heathrow hotel in the village Longford could create up to 150 new jobs if a revised planning application submitted in December is accepted by London Borough of Hillingdon.

Joint venture developers Rokeby Developments and Scottish businessman and philanthropist, Lord Laidlaw have submitted revised plans for a hotel at 458-468 Bath Road, by Lord Laidlaw’s Abbey Business Centre, following dialogue with local planning officers.

The revised plans, are intended to improve the relationship with the historic character of the village of Longford and also the adjoining greenbelt in terms of scale, massing and detailed design. The revisions envisage a smaller hotel of 342 rooms. The original concept was for a 498-room hotel.

The plot comprising 452 Bath Road will be redeveloped to provide four new three-bedroom houses. The Grade II Listed building ‘The Stables’ at 456 Bath Road will be retained as a single dwelling house. 470 Bath Road, a building of local historic interest will be converted into two dwellings. These buildings are currently vacant and unsightly.

The landscaping scheme and public realm improvements are designed to encourage bio-diversity with a blend of retaining existing trees and new planting, and will include a new riverside walk along the Duke of Northumberland River which runs along the Western boundary of the site. This will link in to Prospect Park to the north and Longford Meadows to the south. It will also create improved drainage to minimise flooding risk.

Rokeby Developments managing director Adrian Goodall said: “Following considerable consultation with the local planning officers we hope we have created an enhanced scheme which will sympathetically create new employment and public amenity not only for the attractive village of Longford but the surrounding area. And it will also address London’s critical shortage of hotels.”

The developers are holding a public exhibition for local residents and interested parties on 11 and 12 of January between 4pm and 7pm at the Abbey Business Centre, 450 Bath Road, Longford.

TP Bennett is the architect and is advising on planning.
